For sale is a single, extra-large stone made of central Texas chert / flint. Chert / flint stone such as this makes an excellent fire starter when struck with carbon steel or when scraped against a ferrocerium rod. But due to this rock's rare large size and shape, this stone would be idea for knapping into a large spear point, axe blade or tomahawk head. Due to its weight, size and shape, it would also make a good hammer stone.
Total weight is 5 pounds 12.5 ounces. Though irregularly shaped, it is roughly shaped like a tomahawk or ax head. One edge is roughly triangular, measuring approximately 5" x 7" x 4 at it widest points. The other side is roughly rectangular, measuring approximately 4" x 5.5" x 6 x 3" .
This chert / flint rock has not been heat-treated or processed in any way. Because this is a natural product, it will likely contain fissures, inclusions or fractures.
