Pair of vintage carved wooden figural wine bottle stoppers. No maker's marks, but these folk-art figurines were likely hand-carved in Germany or Italy and were a common souvenir. While many were produced as cottage industry, ANRI also made these from 1920's to 1950's. They are about 4 3/4 inches tall by 2 1/2 inches wide. The original cork is glued to the base of the wood carving. Each hand-carved figure is also hand-painted in traditional European costumes and colors so that each stopper is unique in terms of carving and painting. When you push down on the wooden lever on the back of the stopper, the heads move upward on their "necks" and turn to the center to "kiss" each other (some pairs are better "kissers" than others). There are a few random paint scuffs consistent with use and age, but the mechanisms work smoothly and the stoppers are in good used vintage condition. A fun addition to your mid-century barware!
