Antique Star of Bethlehem Quilt, Handmade c1850, all hand stitched, natural dyes

If you love botanical dyes, you'll love the history of the dye processes used in the making of the fabric of this quilt. The Turkey red fabric was dyed using a long and involved process that included madder root, and the green was an overdye of blue and yellow colors as there was not a true green dye at the time. The only fabric dye that has faded is the butterscotch print, which is a testiment to the colorfastness of the dye methods at the time.

The stitching on this quilt is absolutely immaculate, and it is entirely handstitched. The stitches are small and uniform, standing the test of time.

This antique c1850 Star of Bethlehem Quilt measures 92 x 86 inches. The star is about 72x 72 inches and comprised of diamonds in Turkey red fabric, early blue, over dyed green, double pink, and butterscotch prints.
