Bridge-Jay Street Station:
Brooklyn once housed a very unique station called Bridge-Jay Street. Opened on April 10, 1888 as Jay Street, this station served the BMT Myrtle Avenue and BMT Lexington Avenue lines, and until 1940 also the BMT Fifth Avenue. Surprisingly, from 1944 to 1969, it offered a convenient free transfer to the IND Fulton Street and IND Culver lines at Jay Street – Borough Hall. It was located between Navy Street and Adams Street, connecting several crucial routes for commuters of the era. Unfortunately, a fire in 1969 marked the end of its operation, leading to its closure on October 4 of that year. Despite its demolition, the history of the Bridge-Jay Street station remains a fascinating chapter in New York's public transportation.
