The quilt is signed Selva, in the Amazon Rain Forrest. The design of this piece is quite intricate.
This is a beautifully handmade high quality 3D Peruvian textile hanging quilt. The texturing that is achieved by the technique used is incredible.
An arpillera, which means burlap in Spanish, is a brightly colored patchwork picture made predominantly by groups of women (also known as arpilleristas).
These art works are significant in history as they originated in Chile, where women political prisoners who were held during the Pinochet regime used them to camouflage notes sent to helpers outside of prison.
