The Sub, which was known as that because the sign hanging crookedly above the door had no words, opting instead for a poorly-rendered hand-painted version of The Beatles ' Yellow Submarine, was off-limits because everybody knew that it was not a sub sandwich and pizza shop, but a place for kids to buy drugs, or a place where people could launder money, or possibly a place where the owner was in the Witness Protection Program and thus there was constant danger of mobsters driving by and spraying bullets around from Gatling Guns.

Aaron had heard all the rumors. The only one that struck him as maybe true was that you could get drugs there. That story was buttressed by the weathered sign itself; it looked as though the Yellow Sub was smoking a joint, exhaling a puff of smoke, but that could have just been weathering on the sign.

He stopped now and stared at the place. There were 2 cars and a couple of bicycles parked in front of it.
