This is a handmade copper in matrix specimen, found in Michigan, cut and shaped into a cabochon by my partner and wire wrapped in more copper by me! The area known as the Copper Country, located in the western portion of the Upper Peninsula, was the heart of Michigan's copper mining industry. Native Americans mined copper in the Keweenaw Peninsula for thousands of years, using it to create tools, bracelets, beads, and other items. In the mid-1800s, the discovery of copper deposits led to a boom in mining activity, attracting prospectors and investors from across the country. This captivating one of a kind piece was from an old stock collection.
