Celebrate a piece of football history with the John Elway 1983 Baltimore Colts Painter's Cap. This vintage collector's item, given out at Memorial Stadium on September 11, 1983, features the bold writing "It's Pay Day... Elway".
In 1983 John Elway was selected as the first overall pick in the NFL Draft by the Baltimore Colts. Elway refused to play for the Colts and was traded on May 2nd. to the Denver Broncos. The two teams met on September 11, 1983 at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore. Baltimore, feeling disrespected by Elway for refusing to sign with them gave each fan attending the game this painter's cap with the words "It's Pay Day Elway." A crazed sell out in Baltimore watched as Elway was sacked 3 times and later pulled from the game. Steve DeBerg relieved Elway and brought the Broncos back to defeat the Colts 17 to 10. This cap is a unique piece of Baltimore Colts history. Please let me know if you have any questions or need to see any more photos. I am always happy to help.
