This kit is a plank-on-bulkhead model of the Endeavour. It includes precision laser cut wood pieces with turned brass, cast parts and pre-finished sails classified and arranged for easy identification in a compartmented box. The instruction book is in 7 languages and includes detailed instructions with step-by-step illustrations. 5 sheets of plans are included with additional details of construction.
The Endeavour is an example of collier, a sturdy vessel used to haul coal from the North-Eastern Coast of England to London. It was chosen for Lt. James Cook's first "Voyage of Discovery" from Whitby to Tahiti, ostensibly to measure the "Transit of Venus" in 1769. The Royal Society of London convinced King George to send a ship to measure Venus passing before the sun to improve the accuracy of celestial navigation (their only method in those days).
