Authentic hand-colored stipple engraving from the famous 1812 Paris edition of “Mœurs, Usages, et Costumes des Othomans, et Abrégé de leur Histoire” by Antoine-Laurent Castellan (1772–1838).
This rare ethnographic print depicts:
   •   Ochedjy – an Ottoman cook (with tall conical headgear and tray of dishes)
   •   Ochedjy Bachi – the head cook of the Janissary Corps, dressed in ceremonial kitchen-military regalia with symbolic cooking implements

This engraving is part of a historic 72-plate series that documented the people, professions, and ceremonial roles of the Ottoman Empire, based on the author’s travels in Constantinople.
Size/Condition: Please see photos for details.
Original engravings from Castellan’s Ottoman costume series were exhibited and sold at major auction houses such as Sotheby’s and Christie’s, both as full volumes and as rare individual plates. These works remain highly collectible and decorative today. Can be shipped framed or unframed.
