The American Civic War (1861-1865) was fought over the Confederation's secession from the Union. This sculpture is a rare and large (24") handpainted statue of a Union sergeant in a heavy chalkware-like material. He's leaning against a damaged brick wall with a cannonball on the ground and a pistol and sword on his belt. The level of detail is really quite extraordinary.
This piece is so similar to a 9.5" piece by the Italian sculptor Silvio Righetto that I was surprised to find it probably wasn't the same guy. My piece is marked with what looks like the initials AH, an unusual symbol, and USA. This piece has a very different signature or mark. I spent hours trying to find more info, but it just wasn't available. In very good to excellent pre-owned condition with just a few minor chips in the paint that have been expertly retouched. Approx. measurements: 24"x 6"x 4". Weight: 18 lbs.
