This is a fascinating piece. Intriguingly, Skowhegan isn't a commercial art studio that takes commissions - it's primarily an academic institution. Any commissioned works are usually special projects involving their alum network rather than a regular service they offer. Interestingly and inexplicably, it was made as "Artist Unknown" as they knew who it was, as in the photo packet, they labeled it Wyeth (See Picture). Wyeth was very prolific and made over 3000 known pieces. The original sketch sold at the auction included a letter from Betsy Wyeth and was marked as a "Sat Sketch" in pencil on the back by N. C. Wyeth. More history is available, but the character limit on Mercari makes this truncated.
