Solid silver figural brooches from early Soviet Russia are rare. This piece is visually distinct and likely from a politically tense period.
Shaped like a balalaika (or similar), it pairs precious metal with folk imagery during a time of tight cultural control.
Origin: Likely USSR
Materials: Solid silver (acid tested); non-ferrous pin stem (likely silver or nickel alloy)
Style/Era: Folk-themed figural brooch depicting a balalaika; likely early 1930s Soviet era
Condition: Good used / vintage condition; visible surface wear & oxidation consistent w/ age. The bright silver on the back side in the middle is where a sticker w/ a person's first name was (written in pen). Regrettably, the sticker was thrown out inadvertently.
Approx Dimens: 2 3/8" × 11/16"
Features: Hand-formed construction; primitive rendering of balalaika instrument (or similar); elongated pin w/ C-clasp closure; solid silver body w/ wire detailing
