Exquisite hand-painted paper-mache Russian lacquer box made in 1985, signed and numbered by the artist with original certificate, never used, stored in original box, bought in Moscow, Russia (then the USSR). Stands on four small feet. Floral design around the sides. Dimensions 5 3/4” by 3 7/8” on top, 5 1/2” by 3 3/4” on bottom and 1 5/8” height, including feet. Artist’s name is something like (English translation) “Chetasapoba.” This Palekh Box was made in 1985. It’s a hand painted picture of a Russian folk tale. Four ladies are featured in the scene, a simple supplicant seems to be asking for a donation from what looks like a Queen. Upper right features a Royal Palace. Stored away since 1985 in its red cardboard box with lambs wool padding, and original artist certificate is inside this box, giving all details in Russian. USSR written on underside of lacquer box and top of cardboard box. Lacquer Box is dated 1985. Artist signature is on top of box. New Old Stock mint. SI Oak
