3 stunning 19th-century Qing Dynasty Chinese hand carved lacquered wooden relief plaques. These antique treasures feature remnants of their original gilt coating, showcasing their historical charm and intricate craftsmanship. On one piece, there are remnant inlaid mother of pearl floral decor. (see the last picture) These pieces were probably fragments of old furniture.
The two flat pieces are 14" x 10" and 14" x 5" respectively. The larger one features "He-he Er Xian" (The Two Immortals of Harmony and Unity). They are two Taoist figures representing harmony and unity in relationships, especially happy marriages. The smaller one features scene from the famous classic story "Romance of the Western Chamber".
The thick piece measures 13.5" x 8.75" x 1.4". The top portion shows a scheme from a house in the mountain with pine trees an, which was believed to be where the hermits lives. and rocks. The bottom part features 2 scholars visiting each other.
