Undiscovered Australia: Being an Account of an Expedition to Tropical Australia to Collect Specimens of the Rarer Native Fauna for the British Museum, 1923-1925
VERY RARE - FIRST EDITION
New York / London: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1929. Scarce account of explorations of some of the more remote parts of eastern Australia, mostly in Queensland and the Northern Territories, partly by automobile; the Australian government was not pleased with his sympathy (for the era - despite some problems) to the Aboriginals and criticisms of environmental damage.
Wilkins was born in South Australia in 1888 and had an adventurous life, serving as a combat photographer in World War One and notable polar explorer, at one point attempting to sail a decomissioned American submarine beneath the polar ice cap. Hardcover in jacket, as pictured; stated first American edition (first printing). Light wear to book.
