Batteries NOT included, it takes AA batteries.
The music works but it's very picky about playing. It would not play on the hour for me, I was able to push the tester button and then push on the battery and it would play a tune. (Sometimes plays the song in a funky way lol)
The clock time/needles work great with a new AA battery.
