Up for sale is a Vintage Chinese Brass Cloisonne Planter / Brush Washer.
Chloisonné art involves the use of metalwork, enamel, and firing techniques. Copper is usually used as the base metal, which is shaped into the desired form. Colored-glass paste are placed within enclosures made of copper or bronze wires, bent or hammered into the desired pattern. Known as cloisons (French for 'partitions'), the enclosures generally are either pasted or soldered onto the metal body. The glass paste, or enamel, is coloured with metallic oxide and painted into the enclosures. The vessel is then fired in a kiln multiple times, usually at a relatively low temperature about 800°C.
The piece is 7" wide at the belly, 5.5" diameter at the mouth, and 2.75" in height. The inside of the planter has some wears from previous use. The bottom the original label of "Jing Fa" brand, which is the Beijing Cloisonne Manufacturer in the mid-century. Perfect for your floral display, or used as brush washer!
