Vintage Mexican/Guatemalan Folk Art Hand-Carved Wooden Angel – Polychrome Santos – 12.5” Tall x 15” Wide
For sale is a beautiful vintage hand-carved wooden angel figure, likely made in Mexico or Guatemala in the mid-20th century (circa 1940s–1960s).
• Material: Solid carved wood, hand-painted polychrome.
• Size: 12.5 inches tall x 15 inches wide (wingspan).
• Details: Features large gilded wings, flowing green robe, and an offering bowl with traces of original red and gold pigment. The angel has finely carved features with original painted details.
• Condition: Good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. Paint shows patina and some losses consistent with age. The back retains visible tool marks. A later hanging bracket has been added for wall display (not original).
• Note: One wing has been repaired in the past (see photos for details). This does not affect stability and is common in older folk carvings. The left wing is chipped in the edge.
