Stunning antique Wedding Cake Bead Necklace with aventurine and pink roses on a black ground.
The beads in this necklace are all handmade, and are gorgeous. The black background of the large beads are highlighted by pink and blue flowers, and bands of goldstone, or aventurine glass, are wrapped around each larger bead. The smaller beads are glass, and are also handmade. There are clear delica beads and faceted glass beads between each bead, and the large beads have brass filigree caps on each end. The necklace closes with a barrel clasp, common in the 1920's.
Necklace is about 20" in length. Each large bead is about 1/2" wide.
These beads are referred to as lampwork, which means that each bead was individually made, using a gas-powered torch or a blowtorch. The ribbons of glass, the flowers, and the aventurine are hand applied, making each bead a bit different. Lampwork beads were often a cottage industry for Italian citizens, who would be paid by the piece.
