Rare original 1940 U.S. Navy authorized leave paper issued to Seaman Second Class R.L. Grant aboard the USS Ranger (CV-4), one of the first U.S. Navy aircraft carriers. Dated September 16, 1940, this document granted Grant 10 days of leave and is signed by Commander T.L. Sprague, a notable WWII naval officer.

The leave paper includes detailed conduct instructions and contact addresses, providing a fascinating glimpse into pre-WWII naval life and administration. The reverse side documents the sailor’s return.

Excellent historical piece for naval collectors, WWII historians, or anyone interested in military ephemera.
